As the biggest of Balearic Islands, Majorca is a popular holiday destination and is renowned for classic family beach holidays. Every summer the coastline becomes home to millions of British families, who have flown onto the island to enjoying a week or two in the Mediterranean sunshine and get away from the drizzly British Summertime.
With Majorca being a very busy and lively holiday destination, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. However, if you’ve been avoiding the island because you don’t think beach holidays are for you and would rather spend your holiday in natural surroundings, you have been missing out.
Away from the hustle and bustle of the towns and the lively nightlife of Magaluf, this island has a spectacular unspoilt beach; Es Trenc.
As it’s not associated with one particular resort, this beach is unlike the others that line the island. Known as the Majorcan Caribbean, Es Trenc offers two kilometres of sparkling white sands, turquoise blue sea and situated just in front of a national park.
The protected area behind the beach is made up mostly of wetlands and sand dunes, which are home to birds, vegetation and other wildlife which makes for some amazing photo opportunities where you can unleash your inner David Attenborough.
Despite having a rather wild and remote feel, the beach does have plenty of facilities which make for a comfortable visit. You will still find a sunbed to top up your tan, a parasol for shade and even lifeguards on duty which is what you want if you’re bringing your children with your, or aren’t a confident swimmer. There are also a few quiet bars and restaurants backing onto the beach which allow you to stay there all day without leaving, or not having to worry about making a picnic in the morning.
While it’s a very long beach, it is quite narrow, with around 20 metres between the edge of the water and the dunes. The water is fairly shallow and free from waves, making it a suitable beach for children to play and windsurfing. We apologise in the advance if you thought it was suitable for surfing!
If you are with children, it’s important to be aware that one section of the beach is reserved for naturists. Aside from that, you’ll be able to spend the day soaking up the sunshine in beautiful, peaceful surroundings.
The nearest resort to Es Trenc is Colonia St. Jordi but if you are just planning a day trip to the beach, you can easily travel from any of the island’s resorts, including Cala d’Or and Palma Nova.
Access to the beach is fairly easy as you can drive over if you’ve hired a car or catch a local bus. If you have driven, there is often on-street parking or a paid-for car park in nearby Ses Covets.
If you want to find Majorca’s natural beauty, then head to the southern tip of the island where you’ll find the unspoilt, Es Trenc which the article has talked about previously in depth.
