The World’s Best Hiking Holidays

The Lake District may be beautiful, but how about venturing outside the UK for a hiking holiday? Whilst most prefer sunning it up on a beach in the South of France or catching a glimpse of the wider world from the comfort of a cruise ship, hiking allows you to get up close and personal with some of the planet’s most stunning locations.

  1. The Everest Tea House Trek, Nepal.

Gorak Shep

If Base Camp Everest isn’t enough excitement for you, then the Everest Tea House Trek offers even more. You’ll stop to experience Kathmandu’s culture before flying into Lukla Airport, famous for being the most dangerous in the world (it’s certainly not one for the faint-hearted!) The first trek is two days long and takes you over Sagarmatha National Park. It then moves on to the home of the late Tenzing Norgay, the Nepalese Sherpa who was one of the first men to reach the summit of Everest. Famed for the most stunning views in the world, this is a hiking holiday not to be missed. A big adventure like this one can be a little intimidating though, so before you decide if it’s for you, check out these tips for trekking to base camp.

  1. The Engadine Trek, Switzerland.

Engadin 2010: Tarasp

This hike covers the length of the Swiss Inn River Valley, visiting historic Swiss villages and lively towns along the way. Travelling from inn to inn for eight days, you’ll trek from the lower Engadine to the upper Engadine, taking in the awe-inspiring Swiss mountain range as you hike. You certainly won’t find views like these on a regular holiday!

  1. Grand Canyon North Rim Trek, Arizona.

Travelling by foot into the depths of the least explored part of the Grand Canyon is an experience not to be missed. When night falls, you’ll camp deep inside the gorge next to the clear natural springs that have formed there. If venturing off the beaten track is your thing, then this trek is full of opportunity to explore the secrets of one of the world’s most iconic natural wonders. Any hiking trip requires some sturdy boots and trekking poles, but the rocky terrain of the Grand Canyon means your feet will need to be extra secure in well-fitted hiking boots. The range of men’s walking boots from Regatta offers affordable footwear perfect for treks on rocky terrain, so you can rest assured knowing a twisted ankle won’t spoil your trip!
