We bet that you’ve probably been working hard at the office for the best part of the last year. So, we guess you’d agree that there’s nothing quite so rewarding as getting the opportunity to take some well-deserved time off. Unfortunately, due to people’s hectic schedules and an increase in the cost of living, this isn’t always possible. So, to get around this, rather than go on a costly two-week holiday, you can choose instead to have a weekend break away.
You could still choose to go to a city somewhere abroad, or if you’d prefer to stay closer to home you could stay in good old Blighty instead. We here at 365 Days of travel think the UK doesn’t always get the attention it deserves when it comes to travelling. So, to help remedy this, we’ve chosen three cities in England that make the perfect destination for a weekend trip away.
Liverpool
Liverpool, home to music sensation the Beatles, is a cultural and musical hub famed for its culture and nightlife. In fact, it was voted European City of Culture back in 2008. If you’re interested in history, there’s the Merseyside Maritime Museum, which is full of nautical treasures and information. There’s also the historic St. George’s Hall. But if you really want to ensure that you see as much of the city as possible, we’d recommend going on one of the many guided walks that take place all across the city.
London
England’s capital is full of history and romance, so it’s perfect if you’re looking to go on a romantic weekend getaway. Equally, there are plenty of family-friendly restaurants to choose from. Younger kids will also love the city’s museums. For older kids, there’s Madame Tussauds, or even a Jack the Ripper tour for those who’d like to see the darker side of London’s past.
We’d suggest that you try and book a reservation in as central a location as possible. This will enable you to take in more of the city sights, and you’ll have your own private accommodation to relax in, come the end of the day. There are a vast selection of London apartments to choose from. So, take your time to make sure you pick the style of accommodation that’s right for you.
Oxford
Oxford is one of the UK’s most famous cities and has played a major role in Britain’s history. Renowned throughout the world for the famous Oxford University, the city itself is a charming place. Here, you can see plenty of jaw-dropping architecture. If you’d prefer, you can experience the colourful delights of the Oxford Botanical Gardens. What’s wonderful about the city, is that it attracts people from all walks of life due to its world-renowned educational facilities. The result is a city where people of all ages and from all different age groups, backgrounds and ethnicities exist together in a uniquely eclectic community.
If you’re still yet to make your mind up where to go for your next weekend break away, each one of these cities does a brilliant job of proving just how much England has to offer.
