Summers in Spain: It’s All About the Festivals

You knew Spain is a hotspot for vacationing; that’s a no-brainer.  However, do you know the best time to go on Spain holidays and what to do once you’re there?  That’s what makes the difference between a pleasurable experience and an unforgettable one.

Before you begin your summer excursion (and the summer season is a perfect season to visit), plan your adventure beforehand, checking out the festivals taking place and understanding the best times and places to fiesta.

Bull Fights

See courageous matadors tangle with wild bulls from early May to early June.  Book your tickets now for future fights taking place in beautiful Madrid.  Bull-fighting triumphs take place daily during the San Isidro Festival.  Do you have what it takes to be a matador?  It’s probably safer to stare down a bull from the crowd.

Flemenco Dancing

Flamenco dancing is an art in itself, attracting enthusiasts all over the globe.  However, you won’t find elegance of style matching that of dancers of the Suma Flemenca festival, Madrid’s largest of its kind.  If you want to slip on your flamenco shoes, the festival takes stage June 7th to the 30th.  What would you say to a free, all-night flamenco concert in Cordoba?  Be sure to be in Spain on the 15th for that occasion.

Circus Festivals

What would you expect from the notion of a circus – clowns, theater, music, and feats of athleticism to inspire awe throughout the crowd? That’s what the Seville Circus Festival has in store for visitors, starting from mid-June. The circus, a Seville legacy, is a great opportunity to see unparalleled sites and wonders idly, with a date, or with family members (especially kids).

Music Exhibitions

You’ve got the dancing covered thus far, but what about some additional music?  The Sonar dance music festival in Barcelona, from the 13th to the 15th June, features Kraftwerk and the Pet Shop Boys.  .

Long-night Bonfires

Imagine the beauty of San Juan under moonlight (but not before basking under rays shining out of the longest days of year).  To celebrate the summer solstice, San Juan hosts celebrations, taking place from the 20th to the 24th June.  Complement the longest days of the year with incredible nights of dancing, bonfires, and good people.  The event takes place in the city of Puerto de la Cruz, where late-afternoon acts extend into pyrotechnic-filled nights and wonders.

Wine Battles

In Haro, La Rioja, where they celebrate Batalla del Vino, or the ‘wine battle,’ things get interesting when they emulate the famous tomato fight, but with wine.  If you can’t be in Haro for this hilarious and delicious activity, observe other stops on the Batalla del Vino Party Tour.

People of Spain are happy, boisterous folk, and people who like to share their fervor for life through invitation, hosting a number of fabulous festivals throughout the summer season.  The summer season sizzles in Spain; they’re partying with our without you, so don’t miss your opportunity to fiesta.
