Florida, otherwise known as the Sunshine State, has been a tourist magnet since time immemorial. With its beautiful sunny climate and gorgeous coastlines, who could ever be strong enough to resist? It’s practically heaven on earth especially for the frost-bitten citizens of the world.
And while it continues to attract more tourists not only from other parts of America but also internationally, more and more people are also enticed to move to Florida for good. The city of choice, more often than not, is Orlando. With its relatively low cost of living and an indubitably rich and interesting culture, it’s not much of a wonder why the city once was hailed as the fourth most popular in a survey that asked people about where they want to live.
But really, would it be smart to take that permanent move to Orlando, Florida? Here are some questions that you might have to ask yourself in order to come up with a sound answer:
1. Does the heat excite you?
People are not bluffing when they say that the heat in Orlando is tremendous. So if you are not up for a warm and humid weather nearly all-year-long, this is certainly not the place for you. However, since this city is nicely tucked within central Florida, there is still room for chilly winters.
2. Does a heterogeneous society fascinate you?
Since Orlando is an international tourist attraction, you can expect a great mixture of people coming together in one city. On one side you may notice a concentration of young migrants who are eager to party and enjoy the year-long summer vibe in Orlando, while on another you may notice that there is actually a fair amount of retirees who wish to relish the place and simply relax.
3. Are you fine with renting an apartment?
While buying a house in Orlando is generally inexpensive, renting one of the numerous Orlando apartments might be a better option especially if you’re still feeling your way around the city. This is to counter the risk of having to put up with what was apparently a beautiful and reasonably-priced house nestled in what turns out to be a horrific neighborhood.
4. Do hurricanes and thunderstorms scare you?
If you just said no, then well and good; if you said yes, it’s still not a problem. Being in the central part of Florida does have its perks, as hurricanes and thunderstorms here are not as common as in the southwestern part of the state.
5. Do you mind living amongst tourists?
Because Orlando is such a widely-known tourist destination, people of different cultures, ethnicities, and nationalities are naturally coming and going all year long. If you are not too comfortable with this idea, then you might want to consider other cities in the state that are far less congested compared to Orlando.
Although the aforementioned questions should not be your only basis on deciding whether or not Orlando is for you, these should at least help shed some light on your dilemma.
