Visiting Las Vegas is a pretty established concept, in that most of us have a vision of what to expect in the city. Bright lights, high stakes card tables, artistic fountains, glamorous shows, world class restaurants, and a never-ending nightlife are just some of the things we tend to associate with Vegas. However, if you’re actually planning a trip to Sin City, it’s best to get a bit more specific about what you expect.
So, here are a few of the most popular shows and sources of entertainment in Las Vegas these days.
The Bellagio Fountains
Odds are, you’ve seen these fountains before in more than one film (most famously, perhaps, in the end of the 2001 “Ocean’s 11“). They may not pack a night’s worth of entertainment, but they’re a must-see if you’re spending a bit of time in Las Vegas. Iconic and beautiful, the Bellagio fountains also put on a bit of a free show for the passing public.
Mandalay Bay Shark Reef
It might not be the attraction you first picture when you think about Las Vegas, but the Mandalay Bay Shark Reef is a great daytime activity after a night on the town. A glorified indoor aquarium, the Shark Reef allows you to watch and even interact with all kinds of marine life.
Cirque du Soleil
Cirque du Soleil is very active in Las Vegas, with different shows cycling through different venues at different times. Still, if Cirque du Soleil has a home, it’s in Vegas. If you want a guarantee, look into tickets for Zarkana, a particularly unique show that’s essentially made a permanent home at the ARIA resort.
Manhattan Express
This one’s a bit more gimmicky, but it’s actually quite a bit of fun. The Manhattan Express is a roller coaster that takes you through and around the New York, New York hotel, which is essentially a mini, movie set imitation of Manhattan. Anything that takes you up above The Strip is fun, and Manhattan Express certainly qualifies.
The Beatles: “Love”
Technically, this show is also a part of Cirque du Soleil, and certainly contains its share of physical performance. However, the “Love” show has become one of the most popular attractions in Vegas due in large part to the fun brought on by hearing The Beatles in a performance environment.
Fine Dining
There’s no shortage of fine dining options in Las Vegas, and if you want to have some fun with it as a particular event, try eating dinner at a venue owned or operated by a famous chef. Many people’s favorites these days, largely due to this particular chef’s ever increasing TV popularity, are those owned by Gordon Ramsay. Gordon Ramsay Steak at Paris, Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill at Caesar’s Palace, and even BurGR at Planet Hollywood are all great options.
