The country of Croatia is a hidden European gem that has more recently got the attention it deserves from the more adventurous travellers and travel writers around the world. The country boasts some of the most dramatically beautiful areas of natural wildlife in the whole of the continent of Europe; this makes it a top choice for those looking to get away on camping holidays and trekking adventures
There are many different national parks to choose from in Croatia, this article will take a look at just two of the very best and it will provide information on where you can enjoy camping holidays in close proximity to these areas.
Camping Holidays near Plitvice Lakes
The area known as the Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the most widely talked about a location that has some truly wonderful waterfalls and lagoons that are of a deep turquoise color. The 16 lakes of this area are separated by dams that have been naturally formed from travertine on which rivers flow sporadically. Visitors to this area can enjoy walking and hiking along the trails and manmade gangways that link up the different lakes.
The Plitvice Park has 3 hotels for those of you who want a little more luxury but we recommend checking out the campsite that is located within the park itself, this is by far the best way to experience this area of astounding beauty. The campsite does get very busy and so we can also recommend that you try the number of villages that are local as they play host to a number of other fine camping locations.
Camping Holidays around Krka Falls
The river Krka is a natural phenomenon that starts near the base of the Mountain known as Dinara and makes its way across and area of around 109 square kilometers of the national park to the Adriatic sea. Along the way the river passes through many beautiful villages, areas of wonderful wildlife and last but not least, it also has a large number of dramatic waterfalls upon route.
The most impressive of the waterfalls are the Skradinski Buk and also the Roski falls. These waterfalls can get very busy in the middle of the day during summer months, however if you visit them early morning or at dusk you will find that they are a little quieter and therefore a more inspiring prospect.
Camping within the National Park is permitted in several allocated zones and swimming in lagoons of the river is also acceptable, again this is only in designated areas. For more information we suggest that you contact the Croatian National Parks directly and speak to them about making a reservation.
