You have signed on with a travel social networking community. For this you do deserve to be commended for your initiative. There are many people who have a great love for travel and are also interested in meeting like minded people. The issue with them is they do not always take the initiative to do so. Those that have signed onto a social network site to join a community of fellow travelers definitely do deserve a little praise.
They also deserve to hear a little bit of wise advice. Namely, joining a travel social networking community is not enough. You cannot simply add a sparse profile to the social network site and hope that it helps you get noticed in the community. It may very well end up being indexed and some people could say nice things about it. However, in terms of the profile really drawing in people’s attention, a sparse profile is not going to cut it. How could it? By the very nature of the profile, it would just be too dull and unassuming to have any real impact. That is not what you would ever want when you sign on with a travel social networking community.
The main thing you wish to gain when signing on to a social network site is you want to be part of the community. You do want to be proactive in meeting and making contact with others on the site. However, you can only do so much and you only have to do so much.
In other words, you can on the “incoming” of attention from other members of the social network community. While it is true some members will take the steps to contact you and invite you into the network even if your profile is a somewhat limited one.
That said, you do not want the profile to be a little bit overly dull or else you will discover a lot of people gloss over the profile and move on. This is not to say they will have a poor opinion of the profile. Rather, they just might be a bit indifferent to it which is really not what you would want when you are trying to build up a network.
[box]What can you do to increase the chances people will pay better attention to your profile? Here are a few insights into what can comprise a more productive and impactful of a profile:[/box]
- Your text should be descriptive and give those searching through the social network an idea of who you are and what travel interests you may have. It would also be a wise plan to have a really catchy and attention grabbing headline.
- Add nice photos to your profile that display you taking part in your favorite travel activities. Text is definitely helpful but it would not be anywhere near as powerful as the strong visual image of a photograph.
- If you have a muse you wish to share, present it in the form of a blog or notes posting. This will give visitors a nice insight into your interests and likes.
Remember, a travel social networking community is supposed to be communal and a solid profile will definitely help you attain such a goal.
