It’s got something to do with the lack of sunshine, I reassure myself, and the biting Arctic winds and the never-ending procession of winter storms. Perhaps the constant daily dirge from both politician and financial expert alike, warning of the threat of imminent economic meltdown has finally got to me. But whatever the reason, I’m reaching for the trusty credit card and escaping, panting for just a little bit of the sun, peace and tranquillity found in abundance at the Banyan Tree Phuket. Ah…beautiful Thailand. Tropical beaches and golden sunsets. A million miles away from the miseries of a UK winter!
If you’ve never heard of Phuket, let alone know where it is, then what planet have you been living on for the last umpteen years? Asia…Andaman Sea…Thailand…Phuket. Google it for goodness sake! Thailand’s largest island. A partying hotspot where just about anything goes and where having a bit of an open mind is a prerequisite.
But when it comes to a rich vein of luxury, and pampering and fantastic service, few resorts anywhere can hold a candle to the Banyan Tree. So what’s on offer? In a word, villas. Lots of them, all at a standard that’ll take your breath away! Oh, and did I mention the raft of superb facilities? More about that later.
However, before I describe the wonderful villas available, thought I’d just throw in the odd mention or two of the awards this amazing resort has picked up over the years, such as eighth place in the Top 100 Resorts of the world. Now that’s impressive. So is the award of second place in the Top 10 Asia Resorts category of the Condé Nast Traveler 20th Annual Readers’ Choice Awards. Enough said.
There are five levels of villa on offer, ranging from the deluxe villa, perfect for couples with its large bedroom and en-suite bathroom and his and hers private dressing areas, to the deluxe two bedroom villa, featuring master bedroom, twin bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, a study room as well as dining area and lounge. The deluxe two bedroom villa is perfect for the family or for groups of friends and also comes complete with a large private outdoor pool, jet pool, outdoor and indoor showers, and an outdoor sala. The building and its décor both inside and out is simply stunning, the best of the best, combining the richness of Thai architecture and modern design.
Yes, you’ll truly appreciate the care taken to design buildings which are in harmony with their surroundings. And you’ll also appreciate the short distance to sun-drenched golden beaches and endless ocean vistas. If that’s all you look for in a memorable holiday then look no further. You’ve found it. Heavenly. But if you’re looking to combine hours of bliss sitting by a pool, with every whim catered for, with activities of a slightly more physical nature then that’s on offer here, too.
For the resort boasts a fabulous, award-winning 18-hole golf course with extensive practice facilities and a state-of-the art teaching centre. There’s a fitness pavilion available at the resort, too, fitted with the latest gym equipment. Add tennis courts to the sporting mix, a 40-metre swimming pool and the opportunity to enjoy gentle yoga sessions, all under the watchful eye of a private yoga instructor. Perfect. The credit card beckons!
