The land down under has interested British and American tourists ever since we started running publically available transport to the continent way back in the 1960’s. Since that time, the level of tourism to their area of the world has gone from strength to strength, now with more than 50,000 Brits reaching the Australian shores each year. This has led many experts and onlookers to wonder why they’re finding this place so appealing, and whilst the vast openness of the outback speaks for itself, some of the main cities leave a lot to be desired.
So, we’re going to take a quick look at 6 of the reasons people give for traveling here each year, and then hopefully we’ll understand their motives a little better.
1 – Low Cost
Flights to Australia from the US and the UK are rather pricey, but that’s about the only thing that is. As the average wage in Oz is a little lower than that which you would expect to earn at home, food prices and living expenses also have to be reduced. On top of this, many of the attractions people come to visit are accessible for free, and so the actually stay doesn’t cost very much at all. In the case of America, the price can be brought down considerably if you simply decide to travel from a southern state. Even Melbourne airport parking is cheap!
2 – Friendly People
The good people of this country aren’t renowned for getting into fights or being generally unpleasant in any way. In fact, the constant sunshine tends to give them a carefree attitude towards life, which means basic mental health problems like depression are almost unheard of.
3 – Relaxed Atmosphere
People who live in Australia aren’t in a rush to do anything, and this often appeals to those who work in high-powered, high-stress jobs like law or banking. It also encourages many other types of people to visit, as they know for certain they’re going to have an incredibly relaxing time, regardless of which state or city they visit.
4 – Amazing Weather
If you’re looking for somewhere almost guaranteed to provide you will week-long sunshine, Australia is it. Except for on odd occasions, the climate here is very stable, meaning unlike other places on the planet, the TV weatherman actually makes accurate predictions fairly regularly. Don’t get me wrong, he’s got no special insight, it’s just that it’s always sunny.
5 – Extreme Sports
While that atmosphere may be relaxed, there’s still enough excitement on offer for adrenaline junkies who want to engage in some extreme sports. If surfing simply isn’t enough, why not try kitesurfing, or maybe even outback desert buggy racing? Queensland specifically, is an amazing area for rock climbing, but just make sure you’ve brought your head for heights.
6 – Distance From Home
This is especially true for people who chose to visit Australia from the UK, as you can’t get much further around the world until you start coming back on yourself. There’s a lot to be said for distance, and putting space between yourself and your responsibilities, and this is one of the reasons many Brits and Americans give for their choice of location.
Well, you’ve read through those 6 reasons, so now you fully understand the appeal of this great country. Will this knowledge inspire you to travel here in 2014? I sure hope so because you’ll have the time of your life.
See you soon!
